Warm Springs Caddis Fly Tying Materials List

 

For the Elk hair wing , you may use as little or as much Elk Hair as wish. Its really down to preference. This applies to the length of the wing too.

STEP 1 : Catch in a small bunch of Elk Hair fibres to create a tail.

STEP 2 : Trim the waste, then catch in a grizzle hackle.

STEP 3 : Now create a uniform body with the thread.

STEP 4 : Dub a body of Olive or Natural Hares Ear fur, stopping about 1/4 body length from the eye.

STEP 5 : Palmer the grizzle hackle up towards the eye and secure with thread.

STEP 6 : Catch in a bunch of Elk hair fibres to create the wing and secure with thread. (Use two or three loose wraps first to prevent the elk hair flaring)

STEP 7 : Trim the waste Elk hair to create a head that protrudes over the hook eye.
